Smartphone chipset maker Qualcomm is all set to launch a new flagship grade processor soon. Speculation is rife that this chipset will be a successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and may be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. The processor from Qualcomm is expected to improve performance significantly as compared to its predecessor. Today a well-known tipster claims that Qualcomm may remove the screen from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ in May this year.

Qualcomm’s new flagship processor coming next May

Tipster Yogesh Brar has claimed in a tweet that the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor could be launched in early May. He added that apart from the flagship chipsets, Qualcomm is working on several other mid-range and high-mid-segment chipsets, which may enter the market quickly.

In a report by OnSiteGo, Yogesh Brar mentioned that the flagship phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus could be unveiled by June this year. Lenovo and big smartphone companies like Motorola, OnePlus and Xiaomi are planning to launch their upcoming flagship phones with this chipset, and these handsets are expected to hit the market soon after the chipset is launched.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be based on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) 4 nanometer process, which is less prone to overheating than Samsung Electronics’ 4 nanometer platform. The overall performance is expected to increase with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. According to a new report, the model number of this Qualcomm processor is SM8475 and it will be the first Qualcomm chipset based on TSMC’s 4 nanometer node. It will be stronger than the latest Mediatek Dimensity 9000 series chipset, which is cheaper in price but at par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in terms of performance. So it looks like Qualcomm is now trying to regain its performance edge with its new flagship processor.

Do note that apart from this top-end offering from Qualcomm, some new chipsets under the Snapdragon 7 series could also be launched soon. Yogesh Brar in his tweet mentioned some more Qualcomm chipsets that can be seen on smartphones in the mid and upper mid-range segment. The report also mentions that these processors are part of the “Snapdragon 700” series, and chipsets like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ could make their debut alongside a new smartphone in June.
